"COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Arts Festival powered by American Electric Power (AEP) will host the jury to select participating artists for the 2017 festival through a blind jury process in the Governor’s Ballroom at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square, Feb. 11-12.
“The jury members we’ve assembled bring a wealth of experience in their respective fields,” said Tom Katzenmeyer, President and CEO of the Arts Council. “With over 900 applications for up to 300 spots this year, our jurors will have their work cut out for them, as they examine the consistently high quality of work that’s been submitted.”
The jury process is open to the public, and gallery curators and owners are encouraged to attend.
The 2017 Festival jurors represent practicing visual artists and crafters, educators and gallery owners in Ohio:
Ron Anderson is an oil painter and has been an art instructor with the Columbus College of Art & Design. He continues to teach interior design courses at the high school level. His artwork is included in several public art collections including the Ohio Supreme Court, the Ohio Statehouse and the Absolut Spirits Company.
Chris Coffey is a photographer from Akron, Ohio who has been involved with the Columbus Arts Festival since 1996 as an exhibitor, juror and Juror’s Choice prize winner. He was appointed by the National Park Service as an Artist in Residence at the Grand Canyon North Rim and currently lectures for the Cuyahoga Valley Photography Society in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Mary Gray is the director of the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery. During her 24-year tenure at the Ohio Arts Council, she has collaborated with scores of Ohio, regional and international artists, curators and art institutions in the presentation or production of over 140 exhibitions of varying themes and media.
Mikelle Hickman-Romine is a Columbus craft artist specializing in fine beadwork, a labor-intensive blend of hand weaving glass seed beads and wire work in precious metal to create wearable, heirloom-quality jewels. She is a member artist at Studios On High Gallery and a member of the Ohio Designer Craftsmen.
